What is the Algerian Startup Label?

The Startup Label is an official certification issued by the Ministry attached to the Prime Minister in charge of the Knowledge Economy and Startups. It attests to the innovative nature and strong growth potential of the company and opens access to tax advantages, ASF financing and support programmes.

What are the advantages of the Startup Label in Algeria?

IBS exemption for 4 years, TAP exemption for 4 years, IRG exemption for the founders for 4 years, 0 % VAT on imported equipment, priority access to Algeria Startup Fund (ASF) financing, and eligibility for public incubation programmes.

How do you obtain the Startup Label?

Create an account on the ministry's official platform and submit your file (business plan, presentation of the innovation, team, evidence of traction). The national labelling committee assesses it and rules within 60 days. The label is valid for 4 years and renewable.

What are the eligibility criteria?

A company under Algerian law less than 8 years old, an innovative economic model with demonstrated scalability, at least 50 % of the capital held by natural persons (founders, business angels), turnover below 200 M DZD, and the presence of intellectual property or a technological innovation.

What is the Algeria Startup Fund (ASF)?

The ASF is a sovereign fund dedicated to labelled startups. It invests in equity between 10 and 100 million DZD per startup, with a faster process than traditional banks. The Startup label is a prerequisite.

What is the acceptance rate for the Startup Label?

Historically around 35 % of the files submitted obtain the label. Failures are often linked to a poorly demonstrated innovation, a vague business plan or a non-scalable model. Professional support noticeably improves the odds.

Can I obtain the label before I have any turnover?

Yes. Startups at pre-seed or seed stage can apply as soon as they demonstrate a clear innovation and a plausible growth trajectory (product traction, customer letters of intent, a seed round in progress).

What is Startup.dz?

Startup.dz is the official digital platform developed by the Ministry of the Knowledge Economy, Startups and Micro-enterprises to support innovation and entrepreneurship in Algeria. It centralises the application processes for three key labels: Startup, Innovative Project and Incubator. These labels open access to tax advantages, financial support and dedicated programmes offered by the Algerian Startup Fund and other institutional partners.

Startup Label, criteria

Being a company incorporated under Algerian law (SARL, EURL, SPA, SNC and similar).
Not being more than 8 years old.
Annual turnover below 200 M DA.
The startup's business model must be built on innovative products, services, a business model or any other innovative concept.
A scalable economic model with export potential.

Startup Label, process

Registration and application form on https://startup.dz.
Uploading the documents: trade register, business model presentation, NIF, manager's identity document.
Assessment within 30 working days.
The label is granted for 2 years, renewable.

Innovative Project Label, criteria and process

Algerian citizen or resident.
Demonstrated originality, innovation and feasibility.
Pre-incorporation phase or early development.
Registration on https://startup.dz (select 'Innovative Project').
Detailed description of the project (problem, solution, market, team).
Assessment plus a possible virtual pitch.

Incubator Label, criteria and process

A formal structure (association, company, university entity and similar).
Providing coaching, workspace, mentoring and technical support.
Proven experience in supporting startups.
Application on https://startup.dz.
Documents: articles of association, activity report, team CVs, description of the services.
Assessment by the ministry's experts.
