  • The aim of the Agency is to implement the rehabilitation programmes for the former French nuclear test and explosion sites in southern Algeria, as defined in the rehabilitation studies adopted by the Committee, included in the Agency's annual programme, until the complete completion of the rehabilitation work and the handing over of the former sites to the local authorities concerned.
  • It is responsible for:
  • To sign and manage contracts in connection with the implementation of operations contributing to the execution of rehabilitation work at the former French nuclear testing and explosion sites in southern Algeria;
  • Coordinate with the rehabilitation segment of the committee to ensure the training and development of personnel working in the field of rehabilitation and radiation protection.
  • The Agency is called upon, in the course of its missions, to refer to the rehabilitation segment of the Committee, for any technical questions relating to the rehabilitation of the former French nuclear testing and explosion sites in southern Algeria and the construction of the associated works and infrastructures. In the course of its missions, the Agency may make use of national or international technical assistance. The reception of works and rehabilitation works must first require the approval of the competent bodies and the committee, in accordance with the solutions advocated by the rehabilitation segment and adopted by the committee.
  • The Agency may act as a delegated contractor on behalf of the State for the execution of operations contributing to the execution of the rehabilitation work of the former French nuclear testing and explosion sites in the southern Algerian region listed under the project.
