  • Within the framework of the National Policy for the Development of Tourism and Spatial Planning, the Agency is responsible for the revitalization, promotion and supervision of tourism activities.
  • It is responsible for:
  • Ensure the protection and preservation of areas of tourist expansion;
  • To acquire the land necessary for the establishment of tourist infrastructures and their dependencies;
  • To carry out studies and development of land for tourist, hotel and thermal activities;
  • To participate with the institutions concerned in the promotion, both in Algeria and abroad, of spaces in areas of tourist expansion and around thermal springs;
  • Ensure, in liaison with the institutions and bodies concerned, the rational management of areas and facilities of common interest and propose all necessary measures for improvement, modernisation and extension;
  • Providing or ensuring the maintenance and maintenance of common facilities and equipment;
  • To initiate and develop measures to promote areas of tourist expansion.
  • Within the framework of Executive Decree No 94-41 of 29 January 1994, defining thermal waters and regulating their protection, use and exploitation, the Agency is responsible for the acquisition of base grounds necessary for the tourist exploitation of thermal springs of high therapeutic value and for carrying out the necessary planning studies.
  • Acting for the benefit of the State, the agency exercises a right of preemption over any immovable which is the subject of voluntary alienation for consideration or free of charge, in accordance with Article 4 of Ordinance No 66-62 of 26 March 1966 on tourist areas and sites.
  • The Agency shall be obliged to give back for consideration or to grant, in accordance with the legislation in force, the lands referred to in Articles 4 and 5, for the benefit of investors or promoters. However, the surrender and concession must be accompanied by a specification drawn up for that purpose relating to a tourist or thermal project.
  • The Agency shall be empowered to take any action to promote its development, in particular:
  • To carry out any securities or real estate, financial, commercial or industrial transactions related to its object;
  • Passing any contacts or conventions related to its object;
  • To develop exchanges with institutions and organisations linked to its field of activity;
  • The Agency carries out a public service mission (in accordance with the provisions of Articles 03, 04, 05, 06 , 07, 08 of Executive Decree No 98-70 of 21 February 1998 establishing the National Agency for the Development of Tourism and laying down its statutes )
